A380 strange fuel usage

Hey there,
I just had a strange experience with an ultra long haul flight from London to Sydney in an A380. After I reentered the AP+ flight the craft was two 2,5 hours away from Sydney but with 46% of fuel left!

Before I started I took fuel for 20 hours flight time, after I reached cruising altitude I had 45 minutes more fuel on board than estimated. So I would have assumed that when the flight is only 2,5 hours away from Sydney the tanks should be left with 3,5 to 4 hours of fuel left, but I had more than 9 hours of fuel left. How is that possible? Was the A380 sailing in the wind while I was off?

AP+ fuel burn is very conservative and a lot lower than it should be. Hopefully it gets tweaked in future updates.

Yeah, but that’s very conservative. I have to dump 100.000 lbs of fuel to be able to land. That can’t be right after a 19 hours flight.

Would be good to fix that …

Well for jet aircraft :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: props are a different story (as I found out from crashing two props doing transatlantic flights).

AP+ is very weird with the fuel usage. I did SIN-LHR one time and it was left with about 60% fuel I think.

Is it consistently conservative per aircraft or is it a different percentage for each jet?

It’s seems to be different to each jet, at least between the A380 and A350. With the A350 I hadn’t had that issue
