Quick thing, did you notice that they used flaps 3 for take off?

It didn’t look like it was a hard landing but maybe the video didn’t pick it up, nice video though. Thanks for sharing!

Vid definitely didn’t pick it up. I was holding it against the window so it was steady. Trust me, it was rough:)

That’s what I found when I flew with SAA on the -600… Asked the captain too.

Hmm. Probably depends on a lot of things such as:
Payload: We had a slightly empty flight
Weather: Temp and more can change how much power is needed, changing the requirements for flap settings
Runway length: Heathrow’s runways are over two miles long, which probably allowed the pilots to spend longer time gaining speed
Traffic in the Area: it also depends on other air traffic. Some airports may want you off the ground sooner
Airline Regulations: All airlines have different rules about what you should and should not do.

He also said that each plane had a flap sweet spot and that the sweet spot for the A340-600 was flaps 3. I dunno anymore! 😂

Only on the -600 as it is so long it risks tail strike otherwise

Wait were you on this flight yesterday? I was tracking it for some reason. Nice videoing, although it didn’t look as rough as the landing of the Thai 747 I was on yesterday. The flaps weren’t out!
