I was hoping to do a flight from Frankfurt to New York JFK and i choose to fly as LH400 which operates the a340. Before the flight, I briefed myself with the route and fuel onboard and I decided to take an extra of 3,500kg (3.5 Tonnes) of extra fuel. The departure was going to plan and I had a climb rate of 2500 ft/m and gradually reduced it as I had higher altitude. As I was entering the Atlantic, I noticed I had 3hrs and 35 minutes of fuel though I still had 4 hrs 40 minutes left on my flight. When I was approaching the Canadian coast, I had 2 hours left until TOD but 1hr and 30 minutes of fuel on board so i decided to quit my session. I understand that it’s a legacy aircraft but I am just warning other pilots to pack extra fuel if flying long haul or don’t consider flying this aircraft just yet.

Why didn’t you land at another airport like Gander? It would’ve simulated an emergency. I also suggest looking at this: [737 MAX 8 UPDATE] Your Ultimate Guide to Infinite Flight Fuel Burn + Fuel Calculator from Andrew Wu.

Same happeed to me today, I was flying from OTHH to KJFK and took 3hr 40min extra fuel and had to divert to LFPG because i would have ran out of fuel over the Atlantic…
And also even without the fuel problems that A346 has, 3.5 tons of extra is pretty low for an A340.
