When I first got into playing IF, I started with the long haul 777-300ER — yep, the one with those two massive GE90 engines.
But for some reason, I got bored of the 777 pretty fast. So I gave the A330 a try. Just imagine switching from a super overpowered plane to one that’s kinda known for being underpowered in this game.
And yeah… right after takeoff, you can really feel how struggling this plane just to climb. I used to climb up with a VS of like 2500 ft/min, but now it’s struggling at just 1000 ft/min after FL260 according to the unofficial A330 guide. It’s kinda annoying and definitely tests your patience just to reach cruising altitude.
But the more I fly it, the more I weirdly start liking it. I don’t even know exactly why I’m into this plane XD. One thing that really stands out though is how it handles during approach to landing.
With the A330, I actually feel confident enough to turn off the autopilot at 2000 ft even in crosswind. Sometimes I even go for a visual approach just for fun. It handles so nicely and the flare is super predictable, so it’s pretty easy to butter the landing haha.
So yeah, that’s been my experience so far. I’m kinda hooked on flying this butter bus now. Share your A330 experiences below too!
