Recently, I have noticed an issue with the rate of fuel burn for the A330/330neo family. I have completed multiple flights (BGGH to EKCH, EBBR to HTKJ, CYUL to GOBD, and CYVR to NFFN) and have almost ran out of fuel each time despite fuelling the aircraft with multiple hours more than the durations of the flights.
However, these aircraft seem to consume fuel at a much faster rate than before, making it difficult to complete any long-haul route.
Would running the flights for some time in AP+ help, since rate of fuel burn is reduced?
Honestly, do not follow the fuel ETE in the weight and balance menu at all, it’s way off to the point it’s useless. Use a flight planner like Simbrief and it will give you an accurate amount.
I flew the A330-200 yesterday. Landed with over the amount of left that Simbrief predicted.
Simbrief gave me nearly 20 hours for my most recent flight to between CYVR and NFFN — I reduced it to 14 hours since I thought it was excessive
As I said, the fuel ETE in the W&B menu is completely useless.
20 hours according to the W&B menu equates to ~75t of fuel which for an 11 hour flight, sounds about right when you include reserves and alternate fuel + potentially ETOPs fuel considering you are flying over the Pacific.
14 hours according to the W&B menu equates to ~53t, which is definitely not enough for 11 hours.
Ignore the time in the menu, focus on the actual amount of fuel. I’ve pretty much never had issues with the amount of fuel Simbrief has given.
