A Trip Down to Paradise

Howdy!

So recently, I got my multi-engine add-on and had a little extra time left to do some flying. Today I decided to pay a visit to one of my favorite places, Lake Powell!

This round trip down to KPGA (Page, AZ) started in KLGU (Logan, UT). An issue we ran into before departure was not having enough fuel to make the trip down to Page. Fuel wasn’t available at Logan until later so on our way to Page, we stopped in KPUC (Price, UT) to get some. Price happens to be one of three locations for Utah State University Aviation. Logan being the main location with Price and KBMC (Brigham City, UT) being the other two locations. The picture above is at Price.

After leaving Price with full fuel, we made our way to the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area… or just the northern most end of Lake Powell. Lake Powell over the years has been struggling to stay full. The water level is roughly 160 feet below its fullest point and will most likely continue to drop due to the weak snowfall in the north west. Even with these low levels, it’s still a beautiful place. On top of that, I managed to spot something special.

A popular sight-seeing spot in Lake Powell is the Rainbow Bridge Arch. Took a minute to find it but it was worth it.

Lake Powell is such an amazing place. Lots of rock formations and canyons to explore, especially since just south of this place is the Grand Canyon. Didn’t have enough time for that trip. The airspace down there is also quite complicated.

While chilling at the Million Air FBO in Page, I got to spot some aircraft, including this Contour E135.

Didn’t take any more pictures on our return to Logan since it was all the same stuff and honestly, you have to see it in person to really see how beautiful it is.

This flight, while not the last, feels like the conclusion to my college journey becoming a pilot. Started flying in fall of 2021 and will graduate this spring with a bachelor’s in fixed-wing aviation. Not too much longer until I reach the airlines. Just need another 660 hours :face_with_spiral_eyes:

KPGA is one of my favorite spots I have personally flown into. Next time you go stop at Bird House in town. Great food. Love the DA42!

I’ve heard great things about the 42 from one of my instructors who just got her multi rating in one. Love the shots!

Awesome trip report with awesome pictures! Seems like a lovely flight.

Out of curiosity, roughly how much did you have to pay for fuel, and was that any sort of increase as to what it normally is?

I actually didn’t check the recipes. My instructor was the one taking care of that with the college’s credit card

This was the only time I wasn’t worried about money, even with the flight costing me $2400. I had extra money left over after get my multi-engine add-on. Unfortunately due to the college’s policies, I can’t refund that extra money. I have to fly it off
