It appears that Korean Airlines, the flag carrier of South Korea, has quietly unveiled a new livery on one of their 787-10s. Information on the new aircraft is sparse, and it doesn’t appear there’s any official statement from the airline regarding it. The livery is much simpler than their iconic Pepsi-esque livery, which is worn on most of their fleet. The redesign seems to be following the modernizing trend of removing color and, frankly, character from aircraft. It’s similar to what KLM did.
So far, it seems that only HL-8515 has received the new paint job. It’s unclear when other members of the Korean Air fleet will be repainted.
My Personal Thoughts
Personally, I really don’t like the redesign. It’s a massive downgrade, and it feels like it removes most of the Korean flair from the aircraft. The blue color is pretty unappealing, and the removal of the red is unfortunate. The font is really bland - it may as well be a private equity firm logo.
I like it. Kind of resembles a shark with the white belly and blue back. The logo is like a cave drawing. No colors, only a shape. I’m interested to see this livery on other aircraft
I get they are trying to be sleek and modern, but the one old was just so nice. I remember seeing it on an A380 in April 2020, and thinking to myself what a beautiful plane. I can’t say the same thing now.
I feel like I’ll get used to the new livery eventually but I hate the modern look so much. They just sucked all the color and fun out of a beautiful livery.
