airHaifa, a new Israeli startup airlines, hopes to get its operating certificate from Israeli regulators this September. Gonen Osishkin, the former CEO of Israeli flag carrier El Al will lead the airline as president and CEO.
airHaifa will be based in Haifa, a city in the north of Israel on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. They will start out with a sole ATR-72-600. Osishkin said in a statement “Our aircraft are state-of-the-art turboprops manufactured in France, the ATR 72-600, which are very common and are very suitable for flights out of Haifa.”
Interestingly, the ATR-72 will be fresh off the delivery line, slated to arrive in Haifa in July. 2 others will be delivered at a later date.
Air Haifa plans to operate year-round flights from Haifa International Airport to destinations around the Mediterranean and Red Sea, with an expected inaugural flight from Haifa to Tel Aviv. Further destinations have yet to be confirmed, but service to Ramon (southeast Israel) and Amman, Jordan are expected by analysts from the Times of Israel.
I can’t imagine where they could possibly have gotten it from.
From what I’ve heard from family there (mostly in Tel Aviv and Haifa, but some other spots) the situation internally is slightly calmer. Hamas isn’t really attacked right now, since they know Israel is on insanely high alert and the chances of a successful attack are insanely slim.
Marketing: What kind of name do you want? CEO: I don’t know, but something really cool Marketing: Briliant
Tel Aviv/Jerusalem is definitely the biggest metro area in Israel, home to about 5 million people. Haifa isn’t a small city though - over a million people in the metro.
