A Discontinued route to the Syrian Capital

So today I decided to try something a little different. I wanted a unique route and after some research, found an Air France route to Damascus, Syria which operated via Amman, Jordan and was discontinued in 2012. I decided to give the route a go, and it was actually really fun considering I don't usually like flying to big airports. But here are some pictures anyway, hope you enjoy.

Route Info:

Flight Number: AF570
Departure Airport: Paris Charles de Gaulle (LFPG) πŸ‡«πŸ‡·
Arrival Airport: Damascus International (OSDI) πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡Ύ
Via Amman Queen Alia (OJAI) πŸ‡―πŸ‡΄
Aircraft Air France A320
Flight Time: 5hr in total

The Photos:

At around 0930 local time I started my taxi to runway 26R at Paris Charles de Gaulle

My first in-air picture is one over the beautiful Croat coastline since there really isn’t much to see over Western Europe imo

Continuing through the Balkans and seeing the awesome scenery just south of Sofia

The Marmara Sea, with Istanbul in the background

Flying over Northern Cyprus with The Kyrenia Mountains and Nicosia visible

Finally on approach into Amman, Jordan.

After a short stop, it was time to make the second leg of the journey - on to Damascus.

Cockpit shot with the airport in sight as well as Mount Qasioun which overlooks the city of Damascus.

A couple of hundred feet above the ground as the sun sets.

And on the ground after roughly 5hr of flight time since departing Paris.

Thank you for viewing and I hope you liked the pictures

This was a really enjoyable flight so I would definitely recommend it, maybe even try it out tomorrow since the FNF hub is Paris rather than a generic route in Europe or to the US.

Nice pictures. It is very sad that Syria is embroiled in Civil War.

Yeah, the case for many countries sadly :/
However, IF is a good way to virtually visit these places. In my opinion, it’s the conflicted countries which are most beautiful in scenery (like Syria, Yemen, Somalia etc) so I try to take advantage of IF and fly there. It can be a challenge to find routes sometimes though haha
