A China Southern airplane, but in Mexico City

Yesterday, China Southern flight CZ8031 took off from Shenzhen and started its non-stop journey to Mexico City, flying over 14000km. The flight breaks the record for the longest international flight departing from China, making its way into the top 10 longest flights in the world by distance.

The flight is also the first and only direct flight from China to Latin America, which reduced the trip time from over 30 hours to about 16 hours. The return flight, however, takes about 21 hours due to a required technical stop at Tijuana. The flight is operated by their A350-900, which is capable of ETOPS-180 operations.

I decided to recreate this journey in IF and share this interesting route with you! It could be your next ultra-long haul choice :)

Interesting route this! I’ve flown CZ on the a350 multiple times from LHR - PKX and back, beautiful aircraft and honestly great airline, definitely China’s best!

Are you going to do the quick hop to Tiajuana before heading back across the Pacific to CAN? I don’t think an A350 is going to make it out of Mexico City with the load required.
