Decided to explore to Gulf of Guinea in the 737-800 Max on a 5 leg route starting in Lome (Togo) before heading to Sao Tome, Libreville (Gabon) Yaounde (Cameroon) and Finally landing into the Island of Malabo (Equatorial Guinea). All the flights on my route are currently operated by Asky Airlines which wet leases a number Ethiopian 737-Max aircraft as they are 40% owned by Ethiopian. Was a really fun few hours of flying, Sao Tome in particular was such an interesting airport with its short runway (Without ILS) which puts your skills to the test if you’re loaded heavily. The scenery around the gulf is quite something with dramatic mountains, clear waters and massive urban sprawls like Yaounde. Elapsed time on this route was 5 hours and 43 minutes with around 3hr 58 of that being in the air. Would highly recommend exploring this area if you can (especially in the Max) as many routes have multiple stops so you can break up your time Idle in cruise and explore new airports.
