717 Physics

Is it just me or is the 717 really hard to fly and it is basically impossible to do a smooth landing in it. Any tips to make it easier?

It is an old plane, youre gonna have to wait for a rework

Planes with engines on the tail tend to be harder to fly generally, but then there’s also the fact that the physics are extremely old.

Pilots in the real world often struggle to land the 717, so it is more of a plane issue rather than an Infinite Flight physics thing. Very rare to experience a very smooth landing in a 717.

It isn’t actually that hard to land IRL. I have had time in the Delta sim

As everyone said, it has old physics.

HOWEVER

If you’re looking for tips, the 717 flight profile has almost a breaking speed. If you’re above this speed, you fly like a plane, but as soon as you get below it, you drop like a rock and it’s very difficult to recover. The key is to keep the aircraft above this speed, and I have found it works best to be 5-10 knots above it. At 1/3 load (which is a fairly standard landing weight, I think), this is around 130 knots, so you’d want to keep 135 to 140 until touchdown. This means that when you flare, you can’t idle the throttle or you will drop.

Ok you’re right and the 717 pilot I talked to is wrong. My mistake.

717 is broken. The difference between having a smooth descent and stalling is 1 KT. I also tried it and it is literally impossible to land this plane normally.

Although it could be a personal reason but to my knowledge I haven’t heard that

Will say I very regularly fly Qantas link 717s IRL and I have had fairly good landings in it but that could just mean very good pilots.

as @Henry said, you can vote the rework here: 717 Rework

Maybe. I have only personally been on a 717 IRL one time, a second time tonight, so I don’t know how often pilots perform good landings on it. The one flight I was on was a fairly good landing just a little unsteady when touching down.

I strongly agree with you that the 717 physics are not that great… but it’s pretty reasonable that this is a very, very, very old aircraft so like what

Said, you have to wait until the 717 is reworked. But for now we just have to stick on what we have in IF.

i have only had smooth landings irl in the DC9 family the game physics are just old

It’s not too bad, my best advice is to not cut your speed until you’re right above the ground (like just after the “10” callout). Your speed has to be perfect though, so you gotta play with it on approach to find out what works.

It’s super satisfying to land once you get it down, you just gotta practice.

So my second 717 flight had a smooth landing so I guess good landings with the 717 is not all that rare.

Please go see the topic on 717 tutorial.
It’s a very difficult plane to fly but my favourite. You have to stay focused and be smooth on commands. Use a lot of trim during landing
