The 27th Anniversary of closure of Kai Tak Airport and Opening of Hong Kong International Airport
Nestled in the heart of Kowloon, Kai Tak airport, was a symbol of the city’s rapid growth and daring spirit. Its famous checkerboard approach, where pilots maneuvered sharply between skyscrapers, became legendary, leaving an indelible mark on travelers and aviation enthusiasts.
On July 6, 1998, the closure of Kai Tak Airport, marking the end of an era in Hong Kong’s aviation history. The same day, Hong Kong International Airport, ushering in a new chapter. However, the memories of Kai Tak’s landings and bustling terminals remain vivid in the collective memory of Hong Kong.
