Hello Pilots of Infinite Flight!
The US East IFATC Team would like to welcome another weekly takeover, this time a very special EAA AirVenture themed event! This event will be held Thursday at 2100Z until around 2300Z. Remember, 1,800ft and 90 knots, welcome to Oshkosh!
Credits: @Suhas
This week we go away from our 3 part series and head over to the upper midwest into Oshkosh, featuring EAA AirVenture this week. The airport becomes the busiest in the world during this week period, putting aircraft 1/2 of a mile in spacing using a complex VFR system of arrivals. In this event, we will feature different procedures for aircraft flying in. We request that pilots fly G/A, but we will be able to accept a few larger aircraft and several military aircraft for flybys or to park.
Tomorrow 5:00 PM ā Tomorrow 7:00 PM .

Procedures (No Recommended routes, fly from an ATC staffed airport or from your home airport)
https://www.eaa.org/-/media/Files/AirVenture/FlyingIn/NOTAM/2021/2021-NOTAM.ashx
Linked above is the EAA AirVenture NOTAM. We will be following these procedures during this event. Below is how we as IFATC will try and replicate the procedures, alongside you as pilots.
- VFR Fisk Arrival (File DLL VPENV VPPLK VPGRN VPRIP VPFIS KOSH)
This will be most arrivals unless large aircraft for display or warbirds. GA Aircraft that want to fly IFR can expect IFR Procedures listed farther below.
- On departure from your airport, if within Chicago Center, please contact and request VFR flight following. If outside Chicago Center, contact other center or call into Chicago when within the boundary.
- All aircraft must go towards the SW corner of Green Lake. Once near the SW corner of green lake (Seen on Page 4 of the NOTAM), Center should handoff to KOSH Approach on 127.00. At this point, you should be at 1,800ft and at 90kts. If you cannot maintain this (TBMs), 2,300ft and 135kts please. Controllers, use waypoint VPGRN for reference on when to handoff
- Call in VFR (Flight Following) on Approach. Proceed onto Ripon, seen as the next city from Green Lake to Oshkosh. VPRIP is a good waypoint as reference
- From here, follow the NE running train tracks (or the road) to Fisk, the next city. VPFIS is a good waypoint for reference
- When approaching Fisk (or VPFIS), controllers will ask you to report the airport in sight. Even though you may not have the airport in sight, report it in sight. Please do so in a timely manner as this is our āRock your wingsā to identify the next aircraft in the approach line.
- From here, ATC will give you a vector of 90 degrees or 50 degrees and then hand you off to tower. If you are given 90 degrees, follow the 90 degrees. If landing 36R or L (Tower will assign) begin your descent and make the turn into the runway. If landing 18R, pass the airport to the south, then enter a tight left downwind. Once on the left downwind, start your descent. The tower controller will tell you to turn your base very early, before passing the 18R end on the runway. If given a 50 degree heading, follow the train tracks to a grey spot in the ground. This is a gravel pit where aircraft must turn their right downwind. Once on the downwind, begin the descent and turn you base once you pass the threshold of 27. If you donāt turn tower will tell you to. (As seen on pages 10-12 in the NOTAM)
- After this, land! Youāve arrived at Oshkosh. Please be aware that other aircraft will be landing on the runway while you are still on it, so donāt be alarmed!
If you are still confused, please request radar vectors. Controllers will be happy to help! If you fail to follow said procedures, controllers will give radar vectors to put you on track. Holds may be enforced by vectors if needed or by a left 360 as needed
If you want to file a flight plan, please file DLL VPENV VPPLK VPGRN VPRIP VPFIS KOSH. You must have VPRIP VPFIS KOSH filed as a minimum.
IFR Arrivals into Oshkosh
We will be picking a few of the various IFR arrivals into Oshkosh based on direction. Please follow these, otherwise expect vectors for the visual approach or ILS approach. If weather doesnāt permit VFR, all aircraft will be IFR and following this plan. Please contact 127.00, Oshkosh Departure⦠DEPARTURE⦠for all IFR flights.
IFR Arrivals from the North:
- Proceed Direct GRB VORTAC then expect vectors for the visual 27 or 09
IFR Arrivals from the West:
- Proceed to waypoint BOOTY, DLL VOR-TACAN, waypoint RANDO then expect vectors for the visual or ILS approach runway 27/36L
IFR Arrivals from the South:
- V9 airway from the RFD, JVL, or MSN VOR (If coming starting at RFD, then go to JVL then MSN to follow the V9 airway. If starting at JVL, go to MSN VOR to go along the V9 airway). From the MSN VOR, continue on the V9 airway to the OSH VOR. On this track, expect vectors for the visual or ILS 36 or 27
IFR Arrivals from the East:
- Start at GETCH, GAYLE, or FAALZ. Once at waypoint FAALZ, expect vectors for the visual 27.
Military Aircraft
-Contact 127.00 OSHKOSH DEPARTURE. Proceed VFR to Fond Da Luc (KFLD). At this point, 2,800ft and less than 250kts. Then proceed along the coast and find the small island on the lake (Waypoint WARBD for reference). At this point, turn direct to the airport, expect a handoff, and begin to descend. Expect 36. (Page 17 for reference).
Pattern Work
Pattern work will not be allowed during this time, unless⦠you are in an X-Cub on the short grass runway. X-CUBs only.
Special Point to Consider
- There is a chance you are landing on the runway with another aircraft still on it. ATC have been approved to allow this, so do not worry.
- You are allowed to exit on the grass, given it is edited in
- Aircraft not following procedure will be vectored along the correct one
- Departures fly runway heading until 5 miles out
This event is run by IFATC, specifically the controllers within the US East Region. Please tag @Rob_M in the US East channel if you would like to join. As for pilots, turn out was amazing last time, cannot wait to see it again, this time in American Airlines/US Airways Aircraft! Logo in the banner is approved by Tyler
