26MAR21 / 0600Z - Friday Night Flight: Island Navigation @ Caribbean Airports

The Caribbean is a beautiful place. When you fly over it, or to it, in a commercial aircraft, the views are over in a matter of minutes. When you fly GA, however, you have all the time in the world to enjoy the best that the area has to offer. You may have guessed it by now, but this week we go GA for our Friday Night Flight!

Airports will be opened in the northern section of the Caribbean. From TFFG to TKPK and beyond, these airports will offer exciting VFR or IFR routes between them, and some of the most popular airports will be featured. For those who are in for a challenge, we’ve included Saba (TNCS) in our feature airports this week! If GA isn’t your thing, a small selection of airports will accept limited commercial traffic.

According to the AOPA, which of the following is not required for flying GA into the Caribbean?

  • VFR flights must be during the day time
  • All countries require flight plans
  • Visiting pilots must enter and exit at an airport of entry
  • Pilots must have a minimum of 100 hours under IFR conditions to enter Caribbean airspace

Amazing FNF! Can’t wait!

PSA for pilots: 11 mile finals are not normal for G/A aircraft. You don’t need 5nm spacing either! Keep your patterns nice and tight. 1-2 mile final.

Can’t wait for G/A day!!

Temporary Flight Restriction. Some examples are KEGE and EGLC which are the bright red circles that tell you which aircraft are allowed. You’ll see most of these features airports with them saying you cannot fly a commercial air craft to them.

Not an ATC airport as it can’t be controlled. Just an event airport with routes to it.
