Brunei

Brunei International Airport (WBSB/BWN)

🇧🇳

On the subject of wealthy countries, Brunei was visited with a couple of special IFATC guests. I’m glad to have caught the Tyler on his flight to Singapore before closing out. Not to mention plenty of other IFATC members who flew together with Tyler.

Cancún International Airport (MMUN/CUN)

🇲🇽

To a great and well known holiday destination, Cancún! It’s a great place to relax and definitely one of the best places to control. Steady flows of traffic were seen for the hour and a bit I controlled there, and to say that it was calming is quite the understatement.

Thailand

Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (VTBS/BKK)

🇹🇭

Another popular holiday destination in the Asian region, Thailand is famous for it’s culture, food, nightlife, beaches, fresh produce and more. It’s no wonder that Thailand is frequented by people from all over the world wanting a taste of Southeast Asia. Not to mention, its rich flora and fauna in its lush jungles all around the country.

Timor-Leste

Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport (WPDL/DIL)

🇹🇱

A country that is relatively unknown in the Southeast Asian region. With it’s independence only restored under 20 years ago, it’s the youngest country in the Southeast Asian region, and one of the youngest in the world after Indonesia invaded it and annexed it in the 1970s.

Japan

Kansai International Airport (RJBB/KIX)

🇯🇵

A country as famous as Japan, you just can’t talk about Japan without talking about everything. However, its location around the ring of fire makes way for extremely active geographical features in Japan. With over 100 active volcanoes and hundreds if not thousands of minor earthquakes hitting them every year, you really just need to be there to see how beautiful Japan is.

The Bahamas

Lynden Pindling International Airport (MYNN/NAS)

🇧🇸

Tuesday is back, and I’ve returned to the US East region. The Bahamas has over 700 islands, but oddly enough, only 30 of them are inhabited by humans. However, the number of islands does mean that they’re definitely not short on beaches. Tourism is definitely the biggest industries there.

Bhutan

Paro International Airport (VQPR/PBH)

🇧🇹

To the South Asian subcontinent, and to a small country of Bhutan. Known well around the world for having one of, if not the hardest approach in the world, you’d be hard pressed to find good landings when controlling in Infinite Flight. Fortunately, no planes had any issues when I was controlling, and I hope it stays that way.

Nepal

Lukla Tenzing–Hillary Airport (VNLK/LUA)

🇳🇵

A recurring theme now is difficult approaches, and Lukla no exception in Nepal. Other than that, for a country with an oddly shaped flag, the mountain ranges speak for themselves. And while it’ll be rather difficult for me to try and visit the Everest base camp, it’s definitely high up on my bucket list.

India

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (VEGT/GAU)

🇮🇳

The land of colours and the land of spices never fails to amaze me, and this time, we visit the state of Assam. A less well known part of India, the terrain around here isn’t perfectly flat which always poses a challenge to all controllers. I do recommend new officers come to this region though. Terrain shouldn’t be the most difficult, though keeping track of it can pose a challenge when traffic increases.

Also well known as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lankas rich coast lines and blue waters are reasons alone to visit. Not to mention, a country as biodiverse as theirs is a biologist’s dream to visit.

Maldives

Velana International Airport (VRMM/MLE)

🇲🇻

Visiting the lowest country in the world, averaging only 1.5 meters above sea level, this country formed from sunken volcanoes. It’s rich history as a stopping point for many historical traders also means that it is a cultural melting pot of gold, with influences from Asia, Europe and Africa on one small island.

Conversely, we visit the highest country in the world. With the lowest elevation still being over 1,400 meters. Well known for some of the highest waterfalls in the world, as well as the best diamond mines in the world, Lesotho diamonds are thought to be one of the most valuable in the world.

Turks and Caicos Islands, a British Overseas Territory, is home to 40 low lying coral islands, as well as the largest blue hole in the world. At approximately twice the width of the Great Blue Hole of Belize, the Middle Caicos Ocean Hole holds the record. Not to mention, this archipelago is famous for its salt exports.

Zambia

Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (FLKK/LUN)

🇿🇲

A large trend on the African continent is relying heavily on its natural resources for its source of income. Zambia relies heavily on the copper mining industry, and has felt the effects when the copper market collapsed in the 1970s. Nonetheless, the country has since started diversifying its economy to also include agriculture as a major industry in the country.

Croatia

Zagreb Franjo Tuđman Airport (LDZA/ZAG)

🇭🇷

Thought to be a difficult country for vegetarians and vegans due to its diet consisting heavily of meat and fish, Croatia is a little country with a big impact on the football stage. Finalists at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Moscow, Croatia has produced plenty of world class football players such as Luka Modrić, Ivan Rakitić and Mateo Kovačić.

Eswatini

King Mswati III International Airport (FDSK/SHO)

🇸🇿

Eswatini, formerly officially known as Swaziland, is one of the last countries to have an absolute monarchy, where the royal family holds absolute power of the government in the country. Not only that, but Eswatini is home to the longest reigning monarch, where King Sobhuza II reigned for a record 82 years.

South Africa

Cape Town International Airport (FACT/CPT)

🇿🇦

Having taken part in the South African Takeover, I was on frequency at Cape Town. A city with gorgeous views out to the ocean as well as the bonus that the airport had 3D buildings, the airport was a charm to work with. Not to mention the mountains that lay just to the east of the city.

Botswana

Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (FBSK/GBE)

🇧🇼

Botswana is well known as being one of the four countries that meet at the Caprivi Strip in Namibia, but alongside that, Botswana itself is 40% national parks, so if you’re there for a wildlife trip, you’d be sure to find something that interests you. Not to mention, Botswana is a major diamond mining country, so if you’re looking for gems, Botswana has got you covered.
