263 Countries and Territories in 263 Days

One week left to go! :)

Vatican City

Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (LIRF/FCO)

Being the smallest country in the world, it’s only natural that it doesn’t have an airport. Not to mention, it’s a landlocked enclave of Italy, and specifically, the city of Rome. It’s small enough that it can be circled on foot in under an hour. That said, the country is not officially a part of the EU, however, has the ability to mint the Euro currency. In addition, its government does not impose taxation whatsoever.

Akrotiri and Dhekelia

RAF Akrotiri (LCRA/AKT)

Known officially as The Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, this region on the island of Cyprus comprises two parts of the island, known as Akrotiri and Dhekelia, which are military bases for the British military. Interestingly, it is also the only piece of sovereign British land that officially uses the Euro as its currency.

United Arab Emirates

Ras Al Khaimah International Airport (OMRK/RKT)

One of the most famous aviation countries in the world, the United Arab Emirates is home Emirates, an airline with the largest fleet of A380 and B777 in the world. Unbeknownst to me at the time, this would have been my final time posting in either one of 10 threads made available to me at the time, however, this has since forced me to make some amendments to the way these posts are made on this thread.

San Marino

Federico Fellini International Airport (lLIPR/RMI)

One of three countries to be an absolute enclave of a country (the others being Lesotho and the Vatican City), it is also the second coutnry to be an absolute enclave of Italy. PEr capita, it is one of the wealthiest countries int he world, as well as being one of the smallest countries in the world.

Bouvet Island

Novolazarevskaya Station (AT17)

Annexed by Norway exactly 92 days and 364 days ago at the point of controlling, Bouvet Island is an island in the South Atlantic Ocean that rises to a height of about 2,500 feet above mean sea level. It is also uninhabited, and allows scientists an opportunity to study historic ecological artifacts which may have been preserved on the island given the cold and unchanging conditions.

Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (LFMN/NCE)

Millionaires’ around every corner that you can see, lying on the edge of the most exclusive area of the French Riviera, this nation is one known only for its lavish lifestyle with stylish events, and of course, the Monaco Grand Prix that takes place annually. Also known as the Billionaire’s Playground, the weekend itself puts on a show that’s only fitting for a nation of millionaires. For now, it remains a dream of mine, but as the years tick by, I’m more hopeful to see this dream become reality.

You’re so close

I might be a little late, but I just wanted to showcase my event for the final day.

Come on by and show some support!

Tawau Airport (WBKW/TWU)

A journey of 263 days has now come to an end. It’s been a journey that’s nothing short of wonderful, one where I’ve climbed the ranks, seen the community of Infinite Flight from multiple angles, and at last, can say that I am one of few, if any, controllers that have controlled around the world.

My journey in IFATC began exactly a year ago, when I passed my local practical test with my recruiter, Jamal, being the person who set this all in motion. Since then, I’ve gotten a hang of controlling local, as well as underwent training to become radar certified. Not too long after that, I was offered the role of being a trainer. Needless to say, my climb was quick and ruthless, but the lessons I’ve learnt along the way has gone a long way to shaping me into the controller that I am today.

I want to quickly round off this post by saying that this was something I never expected to finish. In all honesty, I thought I would have made it 50 countries in and called it quits, yet here I am, probably subconsciously controlling daily until today came. It certainly does feel good finishing up something I never thought I’d finish.

The journey ends in Tawau. A town located on the southeastern tip of Sabah, a Malaysian state on the island of Borneo. This town is the place I consider home, a town sitting opposite of Indonesia. Just an hour drive away, the most beautiful oceans and diving spots one could imagine. It may not be the richest or the most appealing town to be in, but it’s a town that I get a feeling like none other.

I thought I’d tell the world a bit about myself, perhaps it seems like this airport has garnered quite a bit of attention, nonetheless, when given the opportunity to explore the island of Borneo, please, never pass up the opportunity.

If there’s anything I have to say, it’s that I’m glad to call this my true home. One day, I’ll return.
