:trophy: Euroleague Final Four: Athens Fly-In :trophy:

:tear_off_calendar: Aegean Virtual presents you our first event on the occasion of a major sporting tournament, and more specifically basketball.

What is Euroleague?

:basketball: The Euroleague is the top-tier and the most competitive basketball tournament in the European continent. This round-robin league format consists of 20 clubs from different countries around Europe, with an ever expanding number of teams over ongoing reforms. With a total of 38 matchdays, the member clubs face the most challenging race to the top, in view to secure their spot in the playoffs and eventually to the Final Four.

:glowing_star: Following the completion of the round-robin format, the final positions 7-10 enter a play-in knockout phase to qualify for the final eight of the tournament. Once these two teams emerge, the remaining 8 teams enter a 5-game series of matches with one single opponent, those who ranked 1-4 with home advantage (3H 2A). This encounter is played first to three, meaning once a club has won 3/5 matches, the losing side is eliminated, the victorious club enters the Euroleague Final Four.

:sports_medal: Final Four, the four most performant clubs emerge and meet in a different location every year, hence Athens hosting 2026’s championship at Telekom Center, portion of the facilities of OAKA, the emblem of modern Greek infrastructure, and venue of Panathinaikos BC. Two semi-finals, one third-place final and the Championship, the winner of which becomes the Euroleague Champion, aka the basketball champions of Europe, acquiring the stunning silverware.

:classical_building: Athens is eager to welcome everyone once again for such a unique opportunity, as all pilots deliver the traveling fans from the four respective finalists’ homeland to the capital of Greece. One of the largest sporting events in the entire continent, returns to Greece since 2007, marking another reason of why Athens must be on your bucket list on this day.

We have commenced inviting VAs/VOs to this one of a kind event! Mark your calendars, as Athens prepares for a massive influx of planes carrying the fans whom clubs truly rely on.

4 matchdays left until the play-offs are locked in. The clubs race to secure a direct spot while other clubs chase to guarantee a continuation of their European season, and fight to remain in European Basketball’s top flight.

At this point of the tournament, 13 clubs are the possible clubs which may secure a spot to the Euroleague play-offs, striving to reach the legendary Final Four. However, this effort is never easy to achieve, basketball is indeed unpredictable!

Keep in mind the Final Four finalists’ home will be our airports of departure for this event, as you, the pilots, deliver the loyal club fans from their home to the tournament’s summit.

We are looking forward to observe how the last critical matchdays turn out, as the positions in the league phase take shape. The trophy is waiting for the most powerful team…

Will definitely be there! Aegean 790AE :greece::slightly_smiling_face::heart:

Final Countdown for the completion of Euroleague’s Regular Season! Stay tuned for next week, as all positions are being consolidated by the most superior clubs this year.

Out of the previously mentioned 13 clubs, only 11 yet stand to compete for the 10 spots which brings the clubs to the next round. During this period, Olimpia Milano and (yesterday) Maccabi Tel Aviv were left out of the race to the play-offs!

Despite 10 clubs still competing, the last four qualifying spots go through a difficult stage of the tournament, Euroleague Quarter-Finals Play-In. These matches consist of three clashes between positions 7-8 [winner is qualified and loser moves to the final KO] and 9-10 [winner moves to the final KO and loser is disqualified], where two teams emerge to play against those who ranked first and second in the regular tournament.

Why is this stage crucial? The remaining 8 teams, quarter-finals, will face a single opponent on a best-to-five series. Once a side has reached 3 wins, they qualify to the Final Four, and their local airport will be featured in our event. We will give an estimate once the play-ins are complete!

Eligible clubs as it stands, Matchday 37 in progress.

Will your team qualify? Time to turn up the volume on this spectacular basketball event!

While the sounds of Euroleague teams’ chants and cheers echo in the background, we are delighted to announce our first entries into our fly-in event!

@UnitedVirtual is attending embarking on a transatlantic flight from Newark, touching down at bustling Athens.

@BonnCargoVirtual will be boarding our flagship A320 for a ride from the economic capital of Frankfurt, coming to the Attican coastline of the Mediterranean.

:performing_arts: Our Event is Featured! :tada:

This is a really remarkable moment for Aegean Virtual, as our event is now on the front pages of Infinite Flight! We are looking forward to bustling traffic arriving at our hub, meanwhile enhancing your approach experience in this beautiful city of ours.

The featured route promoted by the IF Team is Madrid to Athens, as well as secondary airports including Nice, Valencia and Istanbul, home to the clubs featured in the Euroleague quarterfinals.

:warning: Given that Madrid is a more popular airport in size and route diversity, we would normally expect to see more traffic in Spain rather than in Greece. However, in order to serve the event’s purpose, we would gratefully request all of you pilots to head over to Athens - and experience the final Final Four moments with us in the birthplace of civilization.

We cannot do without new VA attendance confirmations in this unique event we are ready to share with you all!

We must appreciate our partners @SuisseVirtual for taking their precious time to head over to Athens from our neighboring city of Rome with ITA’s A320!

As well as @RyanairVirtualGroup who are coming over with their 737 Max 8s from the Mediterranean island of Malta!

Additionally, @JuneyaoAirVG has confirmed their presence still pending flight information.

:bell: Stay tuned for updates coming soon near you…

:basketball: Quarterfinals: Game Two :man_bouncing_ball:

Our Euroleague quarter finalists are taking a well deserved break after their stressful week in the play-offs. This is not the end yet, as clubs travel to their opponents’ ground for the next two matchdays. Here are the highlights of the second game.

  • Olympiacos 94 - 64 Monaco
The season leaders grasp on their Final Four spot, as the Greek red and whites decimate the French red and whites, overturning their home and away loss by the same team. This comfortable two nil make them significant favorites for the trophy and they travel to Monte Carlo this upcoming week.

  • Valencia 105 (95) - (95) 107 Panathinaikos
The Greeks…shut their home down…Twice! A match of skill versus skill, toward the Final Four opening. The best basketball in this year’s tournament went into overtime as the two sides had to settle their differences, having tied throughout the whole game. At 105-105, with 1 second left on the overtime clock, Panathinaikos dunks a tie-breaker two-pointer to seal the second double in Spain!

  • Real Madrid 102 - 75 Hapoel Tel Aviv
Los Blancos head to Israel as they sweep the Red Devils in Spain, with their two wins on hand. They are now about to be semi-finalists once again after two years, when they lost in the final. The Spaniards now head to Israel for the next two games, searching the double that sends them to the Final Four.

  • Fenerbahçe 86 - 74 Žalgiris
The defending Euroleague champions lead by two over the Žaliai balti, as they turn over their home and away defeat by the same club during the regular season. They embark on a journey to Kaunas, searching the winner to put them back into the title race.

Intense encounters, all series are now two to zero. Who is able to qualify after Game Three? The clubs at risk now need to win their next two games to stay alive at the play-offs!

Bonus Blog

:shamrock: Panathinaikos: From unfavorite to a true favorite? :gem_stone:

Panathinaikos’ encounters with Valencia Basket turned into a thriller, an ambitious dream on the one hand, an endless nightmare on the other. Two wins at the hit of the final buzzer, the intense conflicts during and post match, have led this series to an eventful fixture.

The Greens are having a questionable overall performance this season, having sustained many absences and defeats throughout their campaign in Europe and in the domestic league, where they count five losses, conceding the championship to their rivals Olympiacos. However, they are not trophyless, as they defeated the Red & Whites in Crete to obtain the Greek Cup.

Panathinaikos has rarely finished out of the top four. Having finished seventh in Euroleague round-robin, it seemed impossible to clinch the Final Four spot, as they face second placed Valencia Basket in the play-offs, who have had an excellent season, defeating giants such as Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and Real Madrid.

With 7 Euroleague trophies, experience set Panathinaikos apart from emergent Valencia Basket. During both games, these two clubs climbed in parallel, finishing each quarter in a mere tie. It is clear the clovers are searching something more ambitious.

The double drama, the final shot before the buzzer, silenced Roig Arena, twice. At Game Two, the two sides went into overtime, while it all felt like Panathinaikos’ historic victory would just be an advantage, the second win gave them certainty.

With the exceptional performance they presented away from home, how will they play at their own stadium? Besides, the Final Four is held at their own venue, Telekom Center in the Olympic Sports Center of Athens. This is a true advantage as the summit of the competition visits the most modern court of Europe. On the contrary, Olympiacos aims to emotionally damage their eternal rivals by lifting the trophy at their rival’s home.

The ambition is alive. Just two years after reaching it in Berlin, against Real Madrid. If Panathinaikos become European champions, it will be the first time in history, a club that finishes in a play-in spot lifts the Euroleague trophy and the lowest seed to achieve this after the Turkish club Anadolu Efes who finished 6th in 2022. One moment capable of freezing the continent, a true comeback of the most legendary clubs in basketball.

Following this thrilling stage of the tournament, let’s welcome @IF_CareerAlliance to the party, pending route confirmation. Come on dear VAs/VOs, show your powerful presence in an event that combines aviation and sports in a unique encounter in the cradle of modern civilization!

:hourglass_not_done: It’s everything or nothing - who is a Final Four finalist? :crossed_swords:

:basketball: Quarterfinals: Game Three :crossed_swords:

The game is still on! Our quarter-finalists still have the chance to progress to the next round, however one series was cut short due to reaching three zero, securing their Final Four spot.

  • Monaco 82 - 105 Olympiacos
The Red & Whites are the first club to secure a Final Four spot, as they sweep past Monte Carlo on their first game in Monaco! Their goal is now breaking the first-place curse, as over the past many years no first seed has lifted the Euroleague trophy.

  • Panathinaikos 87 - 91 Valencia Basket
We spoke too soon. Valencia forces the Greens into Game 4 as they take over the Olympic Center, bringing them into the race once again. This encounter consisted of several heated conflicts, as both managers were ejected during the last quarter due to disagreements over the game’s officiating.

  • Hapoel Tel Aviv 76 - 69 Real Madrid
The Red Devils are still alive and now move over to the next game as they fight to equalise the Galacticos on their second encounter in Israel, their final goal getting a double in Madrid.

  • Žalgiris 81 - 78 Fenerbahçe
The Green & Whites overturn their 19-point deficit during the first quarter, almost having sealed their fate, and achieve a mere victory in Kaunas, forcing the Yellow & Navies into Game 4!

Only one series finalized, as things stand. All other clubs stay alive in the race, who is going to become the finalist this year by coming to Athens?

:shield: No more sweeps, who will reach the threshold of three first? :broom:

:basketball: Quarterfinals: Game Four :firecracker:

One dream, one trophy. The slots are filling up as Telekom Center prepares for the thrilling night, welcoming the silverware of the champion. There is only one single slot left open, featuring the most stressful series of all four. Let’s look at the results until tonight!

  • Panathinaikos 86 - 89 Valencia Basket
The Spaniards with a MYTHICAL comeback against the clovers in a game of intensity and anxiety, as they go level having taken what they needed most; two doubles in Telekom Center to bring them back into the game, turning the tables in their favor as they travel back to Roig Arena once again for the final contest, Game Five.

  • Hapoel Tel Aviv 81 - 87 Real Madrid
The Galacticos receive the ticket they deserved, winning the Red Devils in Israel, who have completed a successful debut season in the Euroleague, after lifting the EuroCup trophy (2nd tier of European Basketball). Los Blancos now await their next opponent in the thriller hosted in the Roig Arena.

  • Žalgiris 90 - 94 Fenerbahçe
The two teams had to be set apart in overtime as the sides climbed in parallel throughout the entire match. Just as the game favored the Lithuanians, these extra five minutes helped the Turkish club prevail and send them to the Final Four, their main goal, defending their place and lifting back to back the trophy!

:greece: Olympiacos VS Fenerbahçe :türkiye:

The first placed team in regular season facing against the defending champions in a semi-final clash in the former’s rival’s venue, in the Olympic Center of Athens. Their last encounter in a Final Four was at the Euroleague final in 2017, when the Turks lifted the trophy for the first time, while Olympiacos has finished first place more times than any other club over the last few seasons.

However, the paradox cannot be left unmentioned; the first seed is infected with a curse…since Euroleague’s round-robin introduction in the 2016-17 season, NO TEAM finishing in first place has ever lifted the trophy. Such event occurred at the precedent season, in 2015-16, when CSKA Moscow who had topped the standings won the Euroleague. Is Olympiacos capable of breaking this mysterious record?

:right_anger_bubble: Who is your favorite to win the Euroleague this season? :trophy:

:tangerine: G A M E D A Y :shamrock:

It is time for Game 5. One last encounter between the most visible clubs in the quarterfinals following numerous events that occurred during their time over the past games, including the suspension of the Greens’ owner from being present during the team’s games, substantial quantity of allegations against each other regarding the officiating, stadium hospitality for the visitors during and throughout the game and many more.

Four doubles. Two thrilling prodigies in Valencia, Two unbelievable comebacks in Athens. The game returns to Roig Arena for their last game. Only one advances through.

The Final Four is calling. Valencia Basket and Panathinaikos AKTOR face each other for one last time.

Will Panathinaikos keep their 8th trophy ambitions high by taking a third double…or will Valencia seize the chance to show up for their first ever Final Four?

Tune in RIGHT NOW and watch this unforgettable and spectacular final clash in Euroleague TV or your local broadcasters!

:basketball: Quarterfinals: Game Five :locked_with_key:

The final spot has been successfully clinched! The spotlight of Telekom Center is set. Four ambitious teams, racing to take home this prestigious Euroleague trophy for themselves. One spectacular event taking place in our homeland, making this all the more special.

  • Valencia Basket 81 - 64 Panathinaikos AKTOR
With the cherry on top, the Murciélagos reverse their 0-2 deficit at home after two unexpected defeats at Roig Arena. They now qualify at the same venue for the Final Four. The season for the clovers is OVER, meaning they are bracing for new reforms to bring this successful club out of the ruins once again.

:spain: Valencia Basket VS Real Madrid :spain:

A Spanish semi-final in action. The two most powerful Spanish clubs meet each other, securing at least one team carrying the flag to the final. Observing their head to head matches, The Galacticos have won four of the last five encounters with the Bats, including both domestic league and Euroleague games.

Valencia Basket, reach the Final Four for the first time in their history. For the second time ever, they also complete a reverse sweep in Euroleague playoff history, following Real Madrid against Partizan, who went on to win the trophy in 2023. An absolutely wild campaign for the Taronges! The momentum will crucially come into consideration in this fixture. A wild night is upcoming in Greece. Rendez-vous May 22!

:trophy: Who will bring home the trophy? :trophy:

:stopwatch: May 22: The Semi-Final Clashes! :crossed_swords:

Five days left for the final stage, and we are officially heading over to Athens for this year’s Euroleague summit. With the host Panathinaikos missing out on the Final Four at their own venue, four contenders, enter a race they may or may not have experienced before.

:airplane_departure: Traveling to the Athens Olympic Sports Center :airplane_arrival:

…where the 2004 Olympics took place in.

Located in the northern suburb of Marousi (officially Amarousio), lies the largest sports complex in Greece, a true emblem of its era. The most remarkable building seems to be the football stadium, a neutral venue which is usually utilized to host finals or to accommodate major teams undergoing renovations or relocations at their own home.

Beside this emblematic stadium, sits the Telekom Center, purchased and meticulously renovated by the major basketball club Panathinaikos BC AKTOR, who have spent dozens of millions on bringing this court alive. Besides, this basketball venue is recognized as the most technologically advanced in the European continent, a major success of the work this club has devoted to over the years, featuring unique aspects which set this court apart from all the others.

This year, the fans from the four finalists are in for a special treat in the most modern stadium in Europe, profiting from the extremely vibrant and unique atmosphere this widely open sports complex and the suburban surroundings offer.

:trophy: Meet the Final Four contenders! :trophy:

:greece: Olympiacos & Fenerbahçe :türkiye:

The first fixture of the Euroleague summit, taking place in the Telekom Center. The Balkan neighbours face each other in a battle between the thrice season leaders of the past four years and the defending European champions.

In their history, Olympiacos have three Euroleague trophies in their cabinet, the last one being in 2013, while Fenerbahçe added their second title last season. During the season, Olympiacos recorded their largest by margin win at home against Fenerbahçe, however did not secure a win in Istanbul.

Last year, despite many expecting a completely Greek final in Abu Dhabi, both clubs found themselves eliminated, Olympiacos by their recent play-off opponents Monaco and Panathinaikos by the current champion Fenerbahçe.

:spain: Valencia Basket & Real Madrid :spain:

The second fixture of this all Spanish semi-final, between this season’s underdogs and the most decorated club in Europe. These compatriot sides face each other for the seventh time this season, with Real Madrid winning four of the past six matches.

Valencia Basket reach the Euroleague Final Four for the first time in their history, aiming to make their first debut the most precious one, as they hold a 4-0 win record in Greek terrain. Real Madrid search for their 12th title in their cabinet after their recent one in 2023, completing the reverse sweep against Partizan, an achievement Valencia has also just obtained against Panathinaikos.

This year, Valencia is a true underdog in European basket. They have never reached this stage before and they have demonstrated their capability to reach the summit and align with the demanding levels of top tier basketball. Real Madrid, having lost the final in which they were favorite to Panathinaikos in 2024, search for their light in the tunnel for one more trophy.

It’s here! We kick-off our event tonight! Let’s enter in celebratory rhythms as we celebrate the absolute summit of Euroleague, of basketball, of sports, in the heart of Greece! Spool your engines up, buckle your seatbelts up, announce inbound to Athens, in an exclusive event we have been orchestrating for months to make reality.

We are once again back, let us fill you in the events that occurred yesterday, during the ties that unfolded in these two games. The two teams who have been eliminated will go home. The two clubs who advance will play on our event day, May 24, in the race for the Euroleague trophy!

Nine thousand Olympiacos fans flooded the Telekom Center, their rival team’s stadium in support of the Red & Whites having a genuine chance to lift the trophy on Sunday after being subject to the first place curse for several years. On the other hand, around three thousand Fenerbahçe fans attended this intense match between two basketball powerhouses.

The Greek team successfully advanced to the next round after steadily leading the Turks throughout the entire game, even kicking off with a 12-0 advantage, followed by a 10-0 during the second quarter. These consecutive shots made it difficult for the Yellow & Navies to execute their respective comeback against the first placed side.

As this game proceeded into the eighties after the third quarter, this encounter had plenty of shots as the two clubs combined a total of 195 points in 40 minutes. An intense Spanish derby between the two most prevailing clubs in both the domestic league and Euroleague.

The 11-time champions advance to the Championship Final, in the ambition for their next Euroleague trophy since 2023. Unfortunately for the Bats, their underdog campaign comes to an end. Nevertheless, they have sealed their future presence in the competition.
