Petra, Jordan
Petra, originally known to its inhabitants as Raqmu, is a historical and archaeological city in southern Jordan. Petra lies around Jabal Al-Madbah in a basin surrounded by mountains which form the eastern flank of the Arabah valley that runs from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. The area around Petra has been inhabited as early as 7,000 BC, and the Nabataeans might settled in what would become the capital city of their kingdom, as early as the 4th century BC. However, archaeological work has only discovered evidence of Nabataean presence dating back to the second century BC, by which time Petra had become their capital.The Nabataeans were nomadic Arabs who invested in Petra’s proximity to the trade routes by establishing it as a major regional trading hub.

Petra is located in the Kingdom of Jordan.
Petra name is derived from a feminine Greek word “Petros” which means “rocks.”
Petra is half-built and carved into the rock, and is surrounded by mountains and passages.
Petra was the capital city of Nabataeans.
European studies originate that Nabataeans constructed the Petra city to track the astronomical movements of the sun.
Sometimes Petra is called ‘Rose City’due to Rose-Red colored sandstone hills.
Petra is enclosed by the red-tinged peaks which create a reddish appearance.
A Swiss explorer, Johann Ludwig Burckhardt discovered Petra in 1812.
The site is not only beautiful, but also secure – the winding, narrow gorge, or As-Siq, at its eastern entrance, would have lent itself to defending the city from invaders
To go inside Petra, one has to pass through a narrow canyon of about 1 km.

Welcome to Qatar Airways Virtual Airline. Founded in August of 2019 , we began as a small group of community members. We all had individual talents, skills but we shared a fixed mindset on one goal, to create Qatar Airways Virtual Airline which would last for years to come.
