2021 Year of Spotting Review

It's hard for me to believe that 2021 is almost over. This was a year of many firsts and invaluable memories not just for my spotting, but for my life. I felt like I grew a lot this year and really came into my own in terms of creative and editing style. I still have a good dozen trips I haven't posted, which will come soon, but here are the pictures that I rank as my top 10 from the past year. Enjoy :)
_____

#10 - T4 Dreams - 5/8/2021 @ KJFK

This was my first time ever night spotting, with this picture being one of my best shots from that session.

#9 - Waving to the Tower - 7/23/2021 @ KJFK

Fun fact: United restarted flights to JFK this year. This is one of my favorite compositions and I hope to get back out to this spot sometime soon.

#8 - Golden State of Kuwait - 3/6/2021 @ KJFK

This is still one of my favorite pictures and from the session when I first used my new Tamron 100-400mm lens at my home airport of JFK. The sun broke through an overcast layer for five minutes, shining a spotlight on this beautiful A340.

#7 - Boating Buddy - 7/30/2021 @ KLGA

I absolutely love this composition and the timing of it. This is the only time I went to LGA and I think when I really started to chase the interesting frames and creative shots.

#6 - Stormy Skies - 8/16/2021 @ KMIA

This ranks higher than arguably other better shots before this simply because of the great memories I made while in Miami. I wonโ€™t spoil the details but expect a topic dedicated to that sometime soon :)

#5 - The City that Never Sleeps - 9/10/2021 @ KJFK

Bringing it to the top five with another night shot from JFK. I love the light trails in this and the starbursts.

#4 - Alaskan Rainbows - 8/20/2021 @ PANC

One of my favorite shots from Anchorage as the Queen soars past a rainbow.

#3 - Smoky San Fran - 8/22/2021 @ KSFO

Entering the top three with a @GlobalFlyer1 style shot from San Francisco. The purple sky, perfect lighting, and bucket list location is what sets this shot apart for me.

#2 - The Pursuit Of Flight - 10/2/2021 @ KJFK

This is hands down one of my favorite shots of all time. It really shows what aviation is all about- the pursuit of flight. The clouds and lighting worked together to really send this one home.

#1 - Clear Skies and Smooth Flying - 8/20/2021 @ PANC

This is the shot that really defines the year for me. With amazing contrast and a sharp framing, this is the shot that really represents my year in aviation and spotting.
