Welcome to this weekend’s flyout. This is my first, but definitely not last flyout in Hawaii. Hilo is the smallest major airport in Hawaii, and is located on the big island. It only has service to 3 destinations but it still isn’t that small. I hope you enjoy this flyout because I won’t have one next week due to me going to Reno for the weekend.

Do you guys know how to do the proper departure out of Hilo? I live there, and I often see lots of people doing it incorrectly.

If a takeoff from runway 26 is being done, make sure to maintain 200-210kts. You don’t want to go to fast. When you can’t see the runway from cockpit view, immediately start turning right. Be out in the water, do not overfly land during turning. I have a full demonstration on my YouTube channel.
