18SEP20 / 0600Z - Friday Night Flight: Per Ardua Ad Astra

Welcome to the Royal Air Force (RAF). A leading force amongst the world’s military forces and perhaps the most famous, the RAF operates from a large number of bases both in the UK and oversees. This week we take to the skies as the RAF, operating on a number of transport missions alongside established sorties.

Bases will be open in the UK and a selection of overseas locations. From RAF Lossiemouth you can practice interception missions, from RAF Ascension you can practice transport sorties, from RAF Valley you can practice the Mach Loop, and from a selection of other bases, you can practice fighter jet flying, C130 sorties, and much more.

Please be aware that only the following aircraft will be permitted into event airspace this week. This is enforced by reports and shown in all TFRs:

- All C130 variants
- Fighter jets
- P-38/Spitfire
- C-17
- DC-10F

What was the first fighter jet flown by the RAF?

  • F-16C
  • Gloster Meteor
  • Spitfire
  • Bell P-59 Airacomet

@Scott.Cooper @MishaCamp

Technically Leuchars Station is an Army Barracks now, however it is a Relief Landing Ground, for RAF Lossiemouth assets and is annually used by East of Scotland UAS & by RAF Brize Norton Herc’s for exercises

So just in that area, there are no speed restrictions for fighter aircraft (enforced by IFATC)?
