What’s wrong with the performance of the Cessna 172? The climb performance is terrible and drops speed in climbs over 300ft per min. This is extremely not the case in real world as a normal climb out from take off is about 800fpm. I tried all settings but with everything on the plane maxed the thing just won’t climb at all.
Hello, and welcome to the community!
The best way to climb in the Cessna 172 is by using 100% power and adjusting your pitch (your angle up or down) to maintain between 75-85 knots of airspeed. If this is the case and it still won’t work, I’ll leave a more knowledgeable person to answer that.
Hope this helps :)
I went best climb w/ a full tank of gas and no flaps at 68 kts. Sustained 600~650 fpm. Pretty close to the 172S I learn in.
Weight also be contributing to the slow climb out as well ultimately causing speed to decrease with the angle your at.
I’ve learned to give it full power on takeoff and get a good speed before rotating (use rudder to help stay aligned on centerline) and once you get the speed needed to rotate, you should easily lift off and fly at a positive climb rate.
Well, you can’t expect a high rate of climb in a Cessna 172. Have a look at the tutorials, it maybe answers your question.
A lot of factors can determine your feet per minute, bit I’m sure your aware of that.
Maybe try to start off slow and climb at a faster rate? I do not know as I do not have this problem at all
Sorry fat fingered my post as 800 should be 700. Normal climb in a real 172 is 600-700fpm at 80knots. Rotate speed s 60 knots, full tanks 26g per side and two people. I’m a real pilot with over 150 hours in a 172.
Did you start from a high elevation airfield or was it a hot day?
Nope standard day and 189ft elevation. Airport N51
As I have said before, I think there is a problem with the C172 related to engine/mixture settings that were introduced.
If you look at the engine % indicator on takeoff at full power (around 85-90%), note it never gets to 100% until around 110 knots IAS - i don’t feel it has enough power until this point. Granted a C172 shouldn’t take off like a rocket especially fully loaded…
