Malaysia Airlines Virtual - Ramadan Tour

As Malaysia Airlines Virtual looks for ways to best represent Malaysia and its cultural diversity, we’ve set out to celebrate the month of Ramadan in a 5 part series of events, starting in Langkawi, travelling to other cities such as Penang, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, and finishing in Kuala Lumpur on the eve of Eid al-Fitr, better known as Hari Raya in Malaysia and surrounding countries.

The first 4 parts of the event will involve two groups flying to the capital of a nearby city with flight times varying between 1 to 3 hours, while the Grand Finale will be a flyout from Kuala Lumpur, with routes to destinations all across the globe. We hope you’ll attend this event, as we’re more than keen on promoting Malaysia to the wider community.

About the Event

This week, we’ll be flying from The City of Cats in Kuching to The City of Peace in Hanoi, this route was flown for cargo during the pandemic and takes us over the South China Sea, before joining the Vietnamese Coast as we climb north to Hanoi.

Called Kuching, which literally translates to Cats from Malay, the name was given to the city, not because of these furry monstrosities, but possibly due to the British the term “Cochin” for any trading port named after the Indian port city. It is then thought a variant of “Cochin” emerged before the pronunciation similarities to the word “Kuching” came about.

Like many other cities in Malaysia, it is a hub for local food, which people in Sarawak would probably most vehemently defend until you raise the point that Penang Laksa is better than Sarawak Laksa, to which war is the only appropriate response. Nonetheless, the city remains well connected to the rest of Malaysia through its airport, given that it is the fourth-busiest airport in the world.

Hello there! We see that you’re still an IFATC Apprentice, which means that you would still not be eligible to control any of the frequencies at Kuching or at Hanoi. If you do get promoted to IFATC Specialist, please do not hesitate to send us a PM, and we’ll liaise which frequencies you’ll open at from there. Thanks!
