On October 9, the airline Japan Air received the ATR number 1500 after 33 years of the first unit that went on the market.
The first 500 aircraft were delivered in 12 years, with American Eagle, on September 5, 1997, the recipient of the ATR 72 that added this figure. The number 1,000 aircraft delivered, also an ATR 72, which received Air Nostrum, was made wait for another 14 years, until May 3, 2012, while the next 500, up to this number 1,500, have been in little more than six years.
As explained by ATR, since 2010 the company has achieved a market share of 75 percent in sales of civil turboprops. Today, ATR aircraft are operated by more than 200 airlines in almost 100 countries.
