Celebrating 1 year since our founding!
For this special event, we are excited to present to you a Fly-In at our headquarters and main hub, Rome-Fiumicino Airport (LIRF). What makes this even more special is that we will be commemorating the Italian “Day of the Republic” (Festa della Repubblica), which is celebrated every year on June 2nd. We are a bit late ;)
The day marks the formation of the Italian Republic in 1946, after the results of a referendum indicated the Italian people were in favour of reforming the country from a Kingdom to a Republic. This year’s celebration is of particular significance, as it is the 75th Anniversary of the original event taking place!

AZVA Featured Routes
Alitalia Virtual and its pilots will be highlighting three domestic routes from the AZVA network into Rome (LIRF), with three group flights departing from lesser known, but historically important Italian cities:
Catania (LICC), Venice (LIPZ) and Alghero (LIEA).
The departure schedules indicated below are aimed at having everyone approaching into LIRF around the same time.
Catania - Rome

Catania is an ancient port city on Sicily’s eastern coast, which sits at the foot of Mt. Etna, an active volcano with trails leading up to the summit. It is one of the biggest leisure destinations in Italy. Catania-Fontanarossa “Vincenzo Bellini” Airport has more flights to/from Rome than any other city, pushing up to 160 weekly flights between Catania and the capital city in the summer of 2019. It is the busiest airport on the island of Sicily, and is named after the opera composer Vincenzo Bellini, who was born in Catania.

Venice - Rome
Details & Gate Reservations
Venice, a famous tourist hotspot, is the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region and is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals. Venice “Marco Polo” Airport is actually located on the Italian mainland, near the town of Tessera. The airport handled over 11M passengers in 2018, making it the fourth-busiest in Italy, and is named after the Venetian traveler Marco Polo.

Alghero - Rome
Details & Gate Reservations
Alghero is a city on the western coast of Sardinia. It is known for being a city encircled by ancient walls, with its perfectly preserved old town center. It has historical and cultural links to Catalonia, and this is emphasized by the fact that the Catalan language is the co-official language of the region. Its airport, officially named “Riviera del Corallo” (Coral Coast), is commonly known as Alghero-Fertilia Airport, after the nearby town of Fertilia.

Arrival into LIRF
Pilots should expect to utilize runways 16B/34B for arrivals and runways 25 and 16R/34L for post fly-in departures.
